Proteins

Cards (3)

  • Amino acids are the monomers of proteins
they have an R group, this is the variable group
    amino group - NH2
    carboxyl group- COOH
the variable group determines the amino acid
  • polypeptides are formed by polymerisation of many amino acids
They are joined by a peptide bond, this is a condensation reaction
  • primary structure - order of amino acids in polypeptide chain
secondary structure - the amino acid sequence cause chain to fold into beta pleated sheet or alpha helix , held by hydrogen bods
tertiary structure - further folding to form unique 3D shape, ionic, hydrogen and disulphide bonds
quaternary - more than 1 tertiary structure
