Elimination Tournaments
Based on the elimination of the team or individual in each round, where the winner advances to the next round and the loser is either eliminated completely or dropped to some form of a loser's bracket
Single Elimination
Also called knockout, cup, or sudden death tournament, used if there are too many participants and the time allotted is not sufficient, the easiest to organize and the quickest way to declare a winner, where any team that loses once is eliminated
Double Elimination
One of the fairest types of tournament, where each entry/team must be defeated twice before being eliminated, more superior to single elimination as a team losing once has one more chance to advance toward the championship
Round Robin Tournament
A system where each team plays every other team, consuming the longest period of competition but allowing the chance to select the best team, and also allowing players/teams to become better acquainted
Scheduling of games in Round Robin
1. Give each team an assigned number, and then rotate the numbers counterclockwise, but keep team number 1 constant
2. After the 3rd round, compute the number of wins over the number of losses, and the team with the greatest percentage wins is the winner, with the actual winner when they play as the decidingfactor if there is a tie
3. If there is a triple tie, the QUOTIENT SYSTEM is applied in computing the scores of the three teams involved
