distributions

Cards (2)

  • normal distributions
    • produces a symmetrical bell-shaped curve when plotted indicating scores new close to the mean which progressively fewer scores located at the extremes of either tail of the distribution
    • tobe considered normal, 68.26% will lie within one standard deviation of the mean (34.13% either side) and 94.55% of the scores will lie within 2 standard deviations from the mean
  • skewed distributions
    • POSITIVELY - large proportion of scores falling below the mean
    • NEGATIVELY - large proportion of scores falling above the mean
    • mode remains the highest point in the graph for pos and neg skews as it isn't affected by extreme scores
