Validity

Cards (5)

  • validity = accuracy
  • external validity = the extent which the results of a study can be generalized beyond the study.
  • types of external validity:
    • pop v = the extent to which the results of a study can be generalized to other groups of ppl beside the p’s in the study
    • ecological v = the ability to generalize a research effect beyond the setting in which it is demonstrated to other settings.
  • validity - links to core studies:
    • + loftus and palmer = lab environment enhanced validity bc extraneous variables could be controlled.
    • ~ loftus and palmer = low in ecological validity bc of the task
  • validity: similarities and differences:
    • apply concept of validity to ethnocentrism bc any study that is ethnocentric is low in validity.
    • related to reliability
    • related to sampling bias = threat to external validit, we cannot generalize the results to other ppl (low pop v).
