BRAIN

Cards (33)

  • The brain controls all he body functions of humans. It generates thoughts and motions and serves as the control center of the body.
  • 3 Main structures of the brain
    • Cerebellum
    • Cerebrum
    • Brain Stem
  • Cerebellum means "little brain" in Latin. It is responsible for posture, balance, coordination, speech and controls voluntary movement.
  • The cerebrum is the largest part of the brain. It is for thinking, making judgements, and critical thinking.
  • The cerebrum is divided into Left & Right hemispheres.
  • The Brain Stem connects the cerebrum to the spinal cord.
  • Neurogenesis is the production of neurons
  • Neurons are cells that send signals from the body to the brain.
  • 4 lobes of the human brain
    • Temporal lobe
    • Frontal lobe
    • Parietal lobe
    • Occipital lobe
  • Frontal lobe - In charge of our thoughts, language, memory and learning.
  • Temporal lobe - (above our ears) Involved in primary auditory perception, hearing, auditory cortex.
  • Parietal lobe - located at the back of the frontal lobe. In charge for sensory information, understanding spatial orientation & body awareness.
  • Occipital lobe - Located at the back of the brain and responsible for vision.
  • 2 Theories about the brain
    • Brain Dominance
    • Whole Brain Model
  • Brain dominance theory - suggests that individuals might be left or right brained.
  • Right hemisphere - creativity, imagination, arts, daydreaming, intuition
  • Left hemisphere - Logic, mathematics, language, analysis, facts
  • 4 parts of the Whole brain model:
    • Analytical
    • Experimental
    • Practical
    • Relational
  • 4 parts of the brain in the Whole brain model:
    • Cerebral
    • Right
    • Left
    • Limbic
  • 2 types of thinking:
    • Creative thinking
    • Critical thinking
  • Creative thinking - involves generating new ideas and solutions, making something out of nothing, new ideas, insights, or solutions that are original and imaginative.
  • Critical thinking - analysis to make decision, solving problems, synthesizing infos/
  • Mind Mapping - A diagram for representing tasks, words, concepts, or items linked and arranged around a central concept or subject using a non-linear graphical layout. Work for topic using.
  • Multiple intelligence :
    • Naturalistic intelligence (Nature smart)
    • Verbal Linguistic intelligence (word smart)

    • Musical intelligence (Music Smart)
    • Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence (Body smart)
    • Interpersonal intelligence (People smart)
    • Intrapersonal intelligence (Self smart)
  • Naturalistic intelligence (Nature smart) - have to connection to nature and distinguish different types of plants
  • Verbal-linguistic intelligence (Word smart) - produce and analyze work that involves oral and written language, speech, books, and emails.
  • Logical-mathematical intelligence (Logic smart) - Develop equations, make calculations, and solve abstract problems
  • Visual-spatial intelligence (Picture smart) - ability to comprehend maps and other types of graphical information.
  • Musical intelligence (Music smart) - produce and make meaning of different types of sound.
  • Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence (Body smart) - control body movements and handle objects carefully
  • Interpersonal intelligence (people smart) - ability to realize and understand people's moods , desires, and motivations
  • Intrapersonal intelligence (Self smart) - recognize and assess those same characteristics within ourselves.
  • Howard Gardner - he stated that individuals are good in different intelligence
