  • There are multiple forms of caregiver-infant interactions; physical contact, mimicry, interactional-synchrony, reciprocity and caregiveresse.
  • Interactional synchrony refers to co-ordinated, synchronised interactions between the caregiver and infant, interactional-synchrony is suggested to contribute to the formation of a strengthened attachment as there is mutual responsiveness between the infant and adult.
  • Reciprocity refers to the mutual responses between a care-giver and infant, with Brazelton et al describing it as a 'turn-taking dance' in which 'each partner responds to the other's cues'.
