  • Traditional Christians and Orthodox Jews may accept the death penalty as they think it fits in with the Old Testament "an eye for eye"
  • Some Christians would also point to the commandment "thou shall not murder" and say that the death penalty must be used as the ultimate punishment for murder
  • Christians and Jews may believe in retribution. They may say that if someone has abused their free will then they should be punished.
  • The Talmud (Jewish book of law) says that the death penalty is allowed, but there are specific rules that must be met. For example, the person must have been warned of the consequences before hand
  • Leviticus teaches "Whoever kills any man should surely be put to death"
