Meiosis: a type of cell division that results in four daughter cells each with half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell, as in the production of gametes (egg and sperm) and plant spores.
Stages of Meiosis:
Prophase 1 - exhange of genetic material
Metaphase 1 - homologue pairs line up at metaphase plate (middle of cell)
Anaphase 1 - genes separate to ends of cell
Telophase 1 and cytokinesis - new cells form with non-identical chromosomes
Prophase 2
Metaphase 2
Anaphase 2
Telophase 2 and cytokinesis
An enzyme is a protein that acts as a biological catalyst.
