Pollination

Cards (9)

  • Pollination
    • the transfer of pollen from an anther to a stigma.
  • Types of Pollination
    1. Self-Pollination
    2. Cross Polination
  • Self-Pollination
    • If the transfer or pollen grains take place within the same flower.
  • Cross-Pollination
    • if the transfer of pollen grains takes place from one flower to another.
  • Double Fertilization
    • after landing on a receptive stigma, a pollen grain absorbs moisture and germinates; that is, it produces a pollen tube that extends down between the cells of the style toward the ovary.
  • Monoecious Plants
    • stamens and pistil occur on separate flowers but the same plant.
  • Dioecious Plants
    • staminate and pistillate flowers occur on separate plants.
  • The Angiosperm Life Cycle
    • Male Gametophyte
    • Inside the anthers' microsporangia, male gametophytes divide by meiosis to generate haploid microspores that undergoes mitosis and give rise to pollen grains.
  • Pollen Grain contains two cells
    1. One generative cell
    2. Cell that will become the pollen tube cell.
