  • Cross contamination is caused by the transfer of harmful bacteria, chemicals or allergens onto food products. It is usually caused by human error, through improper hygiene, storage or food handling procedures. Physical contamination is caused by the introduction of physical objects into a food product. Objects may include plastic, hair, nails, jewelry, chemicals, insects, fur/saliva/droppings from rats or shells/bones/pips/stones not removed properly from food.
