Micro organisms

• Some Micro organisms are known as pathogens (The harmful micro organisms ) - they can cause diseases such as cholera or tuberculosis
• What are micro organisms?


  micro organisms are living things which cannot be seen with the naked eye.
• One type of pathogen is a virus. Viruses are the smallest pathogen and are not able to reproduce on their own.
• One type of pathogen is bacteria. Bacteria is a micro organism that is single celled and can reproduce rapidly.
• Ways pathogens spread are through:

  • physical contact.
  • Contaminated food.
  • Infected animals.
  • Contaminated water.
  • Injected body fluid.
  • Aerosol.
• Bodies defences against pathogens are: Platelets, Lymphocytes and Phagocytes.
• Some micro organisms preform vital functions.
• White blood cells produce antibodies to destroy pathogens.
