Types of Lies

• 1. Malicious Lie

  • told for the purpose of injuring someone, becomes a venial sin when the injury done is slight\
• 1. Officious Lie

  • told to avert evil from oneself or others, a “white lie”
• 1. Jocose Lie

  • told to amuse others, if it has harmful results it becomes a sin
• 1. Perjury

  • lie taken under oath, a mortal sin
• 1. Hypocrisy 

  • acting a lie, to pretend to be better than we are
• 1. Flattery

  • praising a person immoderately for an ulterior motive, a flatterer lies in order to secure himself an advantage
• 1. Rash Judgment

  • when, without sufficient reason, he believes something harmful to another’s character
• 1. Detraction

  • when, without good reason one makes known the hidden faults of another
• 1. Calumny / Slander

  • when by lying he injures the good name of another
• 1. Gossip

  • form of calumny, usually exaggerates a person’s faults or sin with malice
• 1. Contumely

  • insult, dishonors a person unjustly in their presence y refusing to show him signs of honor
• 1. Libel

  • any public defamatory accusation, maliciously made whether true or not
• 1. Name Calling

  • abusive, derogatory language or insults
• 1. Teasing

  • act of harassing playfully or maliciously
• 1. Verbal Abuse

  • a range of words or behaviors used to manipulate, intimidate, and maintain control over someone
