• focus for personal monarchy- a system in which a persons power was determined by his relationship with the monarch
• rewards+status distributed throughout the court; coutriers enjoyed paid positions or the right to receive free food+ it was there that the support of the king or other influential persons could be obtained
• in 1485 the court comprised of:

  • household= responsible for looking after the king and courtiers,guests
  • chamber= overseen by the chamberlain a powerful+influential courtier who was also a member of the King's council+ often spoke for the monarch
• in 1495, after the betrayal of sir William Stanley, H7 created the Privy Chamaber, protected the king as only loyal servants could enter
