Periodic table

Cards (6)

  • The first periodic table was created in 1862 by A.E. Beguyer de Chacaurtois.
1869- Russian Dmitri Mendeleeve published his periodic table eventually claiming the name , ‘ father of the periodic table’
The periodic table is a systematic arrangement of chemical elements organized in periods (horizontal) and groups (vertical) base on atonic structure and properties.
    • They are 7 periods in the periodic table labelled from 1-7. each period represents a new shell for electrons in the atoms of the elements within that period
    • they are 8 groups in the periodic table (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,0)
    • they’re 118 elements in title on the periodic table.
  • Transition elements do not necessarily belong to a particular group as they fall into many groups
  • properties
    • A property is something that describes how a substrate behaves. There are two types of properties
    • chemical changes : happen when chemical reactions occur. They involve the formation of new chemical or compound
    • physical changes : when a substrate simply changes state. For example from solid to liquid.
  • Evidence for a chemical reactions can include the following
    • bubbles
    • color change
    • A large energy change
  • Redox reaction
    • the word redox is a combinations of two words Reduction and Oxidation.
    • reduction is the loss of oxygen where as oxidation is oxygen gain.
    • E.G: carbon + oxygen = CO2
