    • Newspaper Campaigns work by targeting audiences
    • By making people think the way they want, the newspaper hopes politicians will act in line with the views of the popiele voting for them
  • Sarah’s Law:
    • Allows people to ask if a convicted sex offender has had contact with a specific child
    • Newspapers heavily reported their murder of Sarah Payne in 2000 by a convicted sex offender.
    • News of the world supported this campaign and published the name of 50 sex offenders and led to a petition to encourage a change in law.

  • Year and A Day Rule:
    • Michaels Gibson’s was 20 when he was assaulted. Michael lived 22 months in a coma after his assault
    • 1278 law which said if the victim of an assault lived for a year and a day after the attack, no manslaughter or murder charge could be given
    • Northern Echo led a petition to have the law changed, published upsetting images of Michael in his coma.
    • In 1996 the law was abolished
