• The sun is the main source of energy for all organisms
• Only plants are able to trap light from the sun directly to make food.
• All other organisms get energy from the sun indrectly
• The energy in these organisms can be traced back to the sun
• Plants have chlorophyll, which is the green pigment found mainly in their leaves.
• Chlorophyll helps to trap light from the sun so that the leaves of the plant can make food.
• Plants can make their own food, thus they are known as producers.
• Unlike Producers, Consumers cannot make their own food
• Consumers eat plants or other animals or both.
• Consumers that eat plants get their food from producers directly.
• Plant-eaters are consumers that eat plants only.
• Plant and animal-eaters are consumers that eat both plant and animals.
• Plant-eaters or plant and animal-eaters that feed on plants get energy from the sun indirectly.
• Consumers that get their food by hunting and eating other animals are known as animal-eaters.
• Animal-eaters that hunt and kill other animals for food are known as predators.
