    1. Provide each employee a rest period of not less than 24 consecutive hours after every six consecutive normal work days
    2. In case of compressed work week scheme, provide a rest period of not less than 48 hours but not more than 72 hours
  • Compressed work week scheme
    A work schedule where the normal weekly hours are compressed into fewer than five days per week

    1. Employer determines and schedules the weekly rest day of employees
    2. Subject to collective bargaining agreement
    3. Subject to rules and regulations of the Secretary of Labor
    4. Employer shall respect employee preference for weekly rest day based on religious grounds

    A rest period of not less than twenty-four (24) consecutive hours after every six (6) consecutive normal work days

    1. Subject to collective bargaining agreement
    2. Subject to rules and regulations by Secretary of Labor and Employment
    3. Respects employee preference based on religious grounds
  • Circumstances when employer may require work on a rest day
    • Actual or impending emergencies to prevent loss of life, property, or public safety
    • Urgent work on machinery, equipment, or installation to avoid serious loss
    • Abnormal pressure of work due to special circumstances
    • To prevent loss or damage to perishable goods
    • Nature of work requires continuous operations and stoppage may result in irreparable injury or loss
    • Other analogous or similar circumstances determined by Secretary of Labor and Employment
  • Compensation for rest day, Sunday or holiday work
    • At least 30% additional pay for work on scheduled rest day or Sunday
    • At least 30% additional pay for work on Sundays and holidays if no regular workdays and rest days
    • At least 30% additional pay for work on special holidays
    • At least 50% additional pay for work on scheduled rest day that falls on a special holiday
    • Higher premium pay if stipulated in collective bargaining agreement or employment contract
