RP9 acid-base titration

Cards (3)

  • a suitable indicator for a titration is one which changes colour in the part of the pH against volume graph that is a vertical straight line
  • method to obtain data to plot a graph of pH against volume:
    • place a fixed volume of acid/base in a beaker
    • add base/acid in small portions from a burette
    • stir and use a pH meter to record pH after each addition of acid
  • a burette is more suitable for measuring the volume of the solution that is being added than a pipette because a burette can deliver variable volumes
