    the military council decided to join forces with James Connolly and the irish citzen army[ica] they decided the rising would take place on sunday the 23rd april 1916
  • casement roger
    roger casement was sent to germany to get 20,00 rifles aboard the aud. on april 20th casement arrived by submarine to tralee bay. the following day he was captured
  • castle document
    eoin macneill had 11,000 irish voluneters .he was shown a forged document [castle document] that said volunteer leader were to be arrested. he found out it was forged and left the rebbelion he was convinced not to stand in the way
  • confusion
    on easter sunday morning the rebel leaders decided to go ahead with the uprising even if there numbers dropped from 12,500 to 1,500 they moved the uprising to easter monday
  • conclusion
    they knew the rebellion was going to fail but they still decdied to go through with it because of the meeting in liberty hall

    1500 members were at key locations[gpo, jacobs factory, bolands mill ,stephens green] padraig pearse read the proclimation outside the gpo the gpo was the main head quarters

    2,600 british soilders arrived in dublin from the curragh burracks i kildare they were lead by general william lowe they set up barricades and martial law was declared

    british reinforcements arrived in kingston harbour. a ship called helga came up the river liffey and shelled liberty hall
  • thursday
    james connolly in the gpo was injured . the gpo was being heavily attacked pearse told the women to leave they refused. general john maxwell came with more british reinfiorcements
  • friday
    there were about 19,000 brithish troops in dublin. the streets were filled with burnt vechiles and dead horses and people. the rebels escaped to moore street
  • saturday
    pearse decided to surrender he didnt want any more innocent people to die elizabeth o farrel and pearse surrendered to general lowe
  • sunday
    evrything was quiet by sunday afternoon
  • death
    450 peoplewere killed the rebels suffered 64 casualties 116 british soliders and 16 police men died. 254 of the dead were civilians 2,600 people were injured
  • destruction
    sackville and henry street had a lot of damage done the gpos front was the only part still intact . the british had to pay 200 million in compensation claims

    the public began to turn against the british the irish republuc grew
  • rise of sinn fein
    the authorites blamed sinn fein for the rising support for sinn fein increased while support for home rule decreased

    3,000 people were arrested they were sent to different prisons

    between 3rd - 14th of may 14 rebel leaders were excecuted
