  • there is scientific evidence to support the benefits of MF
    • Holzel - meditating 30 mins each day can improve the density of grey matter in areas associated with memory and stress
  • MBSR can have a positive effect on our immune system
    • Davidson - 8 week course increased brain activity in areas associated wit positive emotion and produced more antibodies to a flu jab
  • MF might be most effective when combined with CBT
    • MBCT - Teasdale found that 8 week course of MBCT significantly reduced depression for people who had experienced 3 or more experiences with depression
  • MF does not involve dragging up the past and provoking anxiety unlike psychodynamic therefore its a more gentle approach
  • clients may not be fully informed about the roots of MF as a key feature is meditation that rooted in the Buddhist religion and should be aware they are engaging in a religious practise as it may conflict their own religion
  • practising MF can lead people to become more moral
    • Ruedy and Schweitzer - less likely to cheat on a task and uphold ethical standards
