  • 1. Spectacular Type – people spend their time from watching the event and derive enjoyment from it.
  • 1. Participant Type – people do not gain enjoyment merely by watching: they do so by joining the activity.
  • Types of Recreational Activities:

  • Physical Activity – People exert efforts and bodily functions in performing the action like (minor sports, group games, camping, outdoor, fitness etc.)
  •  Social Activity – People involved in general (public, private, and commercial) like attending parties, banquets, picnics, social dancing etc.
  •  Cultural Activity – (art appreciation, music appreciation, panels, discussion groups, etc.)
    Art and Crafts activities – (painting, scrapbooking, ceramics, woodworking etc.)
    Dramatic activities – (plays, puppetry, skits etc.)
    Musical activities – (singing, bands, etc.)
  • Intellectual Activities – The mind is doing the functions with less body movement like playing computers, chess, scrabble, board games etc.
  •  Service Activities – Fun in doing things for others (feeding program, outreach, brigade etc.)
  • Benefits of Recreation: Physical Benefits, Psycho-emotional Benefits, Social Benefits, Economic Benefits, and Spiritual Benefits
  • 1. PHYSICAL HEALTH BENEFITS – being outdoors prevents a person from having a sedentary life. It allows people to move, whether by walking, running etc.
  • PSYCHO-EMOTIONAL BENEFITS – engaging in outdoor recreational activities helps people to rest, relax, de-stress or unwind, and feel revitalized.
  • 1. SOCIAL BENEFITS – outdoor activities are ways for families to become closer. They can be a family bonding activity.
  • ECONOMIC BENEFITS – people who have a relaxed body and mind tend to be more productive at work. This translates into efficiency at the workplace. “It’s more fun in the Philippines!” as the Department of Tourism slogan goes.
  • 1. SPIRITUAL BENEFITS – positive outdoor experiences can stir up spiritual values. Being one with nature brings certain calmness within a person.

  • PHYSICAL FITNESS – is a condition that allows the body to effectively cope with the demands of daily activities and still has the energy to enjoy other active leisure activities.
     
  • HEALTH RELATED COMPONENTS OF FITNESS: Cardio-Respiratory Endurance/Aerobic Capacity, MUSCULAR STRENGTH, Muscular Endurance, FLEXIBILITY, BODY COMPOSITION
  •  Cardio-Respiratory Endurance/Aerobic Capacity– it is the ability of the heart, lungs, and blood vessels to supply oxygen and nutrients to the working muscles efficiently in order to sustain prolonged rhythmic exercises.

  •  MUSCULAR STRENGTH – it is the ability of the muscle to generate the greatest force.  Fitness Test: The 1 Minute Push-Up Test
  •  Muscular Endurance – it is the ability of the muscle to resist fatigue when performing multiple repetitions of a sub maximal load.
