Word stress-
is one of the important keys to improving your English comprehension skills.
Stress-
is the prominence or importance given to syllables or words. It is stress that makes a syllable or a word a standout.
4 types of stress:
Primary

Primary stress-
this is the strongest emphasis given to a syllable or word.
Secondary stress-
the syllable or word is given emphasis but is not as loud as the primary stress.
Tertiary stress-
the syllable or word sounds less prominent.
Weak stress-
the syllable/word sound becomes unstressed in an unconnected speech; usually pronounced as a schwa.
