  • Start and end of dance
    Starts with monks collapsing the boxes w/ LM on top, ends with lotus shape, LM in centre and SLC to side
  • F+C: 2 movements and analysis
    -Monks contained in their boxes - linking to where society has placed them, however they pop their heads out to tease LM, breaking through the containment and challenging the stereotype

    -Walking with boxes on backs - carrying the burden of how society views Larbi/monks.
  • O+NC: 3 movements and analysis
    -Monks jump out of boxes, wide stances with arms outstretched, palms up, tilted slightly towards the boxes lunge

    -Lotus symbol created w/ boxes, symbol in Chinese culture signifying purity, LM performs hand gestures; circling wrists together (lotus), forefinger and thumb together on right hand, circles around (perfection w/ no beginning or end)

    -LM cross legged with hands together in prayer pose, meditation, symbolic of Buddha
  • JoA: 2 movements and analysis
    -LM knocks on the metal box and says 'Larbi?' showing he is looking for his friend and has accepted him
    -Monks and LM all together in the lotus shape, SLC once again off to the side in his metal box, not included in the lotus shape, LM is accepted but he isn't
  • B+D: 1 movement and analysis
    - Monks kick over the boxes, all the boxes falling to the sides, shows the monks using kung fu to attack and destroy
  • T: 1 movement and analysis
    -The monks pop up from their boxes, tricking the younger monk which makes the audience laugh, transforming their idea of monks from serious/religious/inhuman to normal people
