Section 9: Solo

Cards (6)

  • Start and end of dance
Starts with SLC stepping into box, ends with him lying down completely so no longer visible
  • F+C: 2 movements and analysis
-Contained inside the metal box (metaphor for mind/mental health?); steps in by himself but is trapped, grabs sides, cant escape, wrists and arms circling and grabbing eg: raises one arm out the box and circles his wrist and then drops it so it is flat against the side of the box. (out of control, struggling),

-At one point steps out box with one leg, can't totally escape, steps back in and falls (things getting better and worse?), later falls onto his back with both arms crossed (death imagery), comes back up and reaches, then falls back again
  • B+D: 1 movement and analysis
-Building up of mental health then destroying that and spiralling eg; gets out of the box fully but with one leg still in, then steps in again and falls down completely, different levels showing up and down of emotions
  • Set and analysis
Singular metal box lying down on floor rather than vertical:
    Resembles a coffin
Steps into box willingly unlike section 5, accepting society's place for him but without LM lonely and sad
  • Music and analysis
    Suspenseful, dramatic, sudden, violin screechy:
Matches movement, roller-coaster of emotions he's going through, music is uncomfortable makes audience feel how he feels
  • Lighting and analysis
Very dark lighting, spotlight on SLC: Dark mood, can't see a way out of depression, emphasises isolation
