individual differences in memory

Cards (6)

  • Processing speed is different for each person. For example, some people take longer to copy notes from a whiteboard.
  • Processing speed can be affected by age and the capacity of the STM
  • Sebastian and Hernandez-Gil (2012) - Younger children have a shorter digit span than older children suggesting memory capacity increases with age.
  • Bartlett suggested we all have similar schemas that can be influenced by our unique experiences. This affects the way we perceive and receive information.
  • Experienced based perception affects how objects are remembered and the development of our schemas will affect the recall of information.
  • Polombo et al (2012) - Investigated individual differences in autobiographical memory. Used a sample of 598 volunteers to complete a questionnaire consisting of a 5 point Likert scale with self reporting of memory. He found that participants that scored high on episodic memory also scored high on semantic memory.
