  • Czechoslovakia:
    > A rich country with a well-established industry, including a Skoda factory and lots of natural resources. Czechoslovakia was politically stable and well respected in Europe.
  • Poland:
    > Poland had been created to form a buffer zone between Germany and the USSR (Communist Russia). Poland had no natural barriers such as rivers or mountains, making it difficult to defend. In order to give Poland access to the sea, Germany had been split in half and lots of Germans were forced to live in Poland.
  • Austria-Hungary:
    > Austria used to be part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but they had been banned from uniting with Hungary. Austria had also been banned from uniting with Germany – which was called the Anschluss. Lots of Austrians were unhappy about this and the fact that Austria had been weakened by the Treaty of St Germain.
