• in 2019 87% of adults in the UK used the internet almost daily. the internet on mobiles means peole have access to a huge amount of digital information
• benefits:

  • allows a much wider range of people to create & post content.
  • people have access to a wider range of information
  • used positively to promote social change
  • allows people to connect with like minded people all around the world
• problems:

  • can be used to spread fake news
  • extremist organisations e.g. ISIS
  • far right use social media to spread their message & recruit followers
  • can be used to spread prejudiced content
  • can have harmful effects on young people's minds
  • rates of suicide among teenagers have almost doubled in the last 10 years
