renal function tests

• clearance test - evaluate glomerular filtration. Measure rate of removal of filterable substance from blood by the kidney
• inulin - gold standard / reference method under clearance test
• creatinine - most common under clearance test
• specific gravity - number & density of particles in solution
• osmolality - number of particles in solution; more preferred
• normal value - 1-3x (275 mOsm/kg)
• p-aminohippuric acid (PAH) test - most commonly used; reference method tubular secretion
