  • Imams are spiritual successors to Muhammed, chosen by God
  • Imamates are inspired by God, without sin % infallible. This means they can interpret the teachings of the Quran without error. Shia Muslims believe that imams are exemplary individuals who appointed by God. They obey God and follow Shariah law.
  • The twelvers are a branch of Shia Islam who believe that there were 12 imans after muhammed. They believe the 12th imam has been kept alive by God and is hidden on earth somewhere. Shias believe one day the 12th imam will reveal himself and bring equality to all.
  • Shia muslims believe imams are necessary because people need guidance on how to live correctly.
