  • ● This birth defect is very similar to omphalocele in almost all aspects (as seen in the photo with protruded organs), the only difference is that there is no covering membrane over the protruded organs.
  • ● Cause is generally unknown but associated with some genetic conditions and environmental factors during pregnancy.
    ○ The factors include mothers being young and use of alcohol and tobacco during pregnancy.
    ● Management is also similar to omphalocele, but there is more risk for infection among the protruded organs due to the uncovered abdominal organs
