Eye and Vision

• Special senses include:

  • Smell
  • Taste
  • Sight
  • Hearing
  • Equilibrium
• 70% - all sensory receptors in the eyes
• Each eye has over 1 million nerve fibers carrying information to the

  brain
• Eyelashes - filter the debris that can fall under the eye
• Eyelashes - Tarsal glands produce an oily secretion that lubricates the eye
• Ciliary glands - located between the eyelashes
• Conjunctiva - Connects with the transparent cornea
• Eyelids - Meet at the medial and lateral commissure (canthus)
• Conjuctiva - Secretes mucus to lubricate the eye and keep it moist
• Conjuctiva - Membrane that lines the eyelids and eyeball
• Lacrimal gland — produces lacrimal fluid (tears); situated on lateral end of each eye
• Lacrimal gland — Tears drain across the eye into the lacrimal canaliculi, then the lacrimal sac, and into the nasolacrimal duct, which empties into the nasal cavity
• Sclera - color white / covered by conjunctiva
• Iris - changing the color depending on the light entering to the eyes or level of melanin / regulates amount of light entering eye
• Darker eyes less to sensitive to light
• Lighter eyes like blue eyes is more sensitive to light
• Pupil - color black in the eye and the contraction of the eye happen. This is your camera lense and rounded opening in the iris
• More light the eye get constricted or near object
• Optic Canal - where the eye connects the skull and attached the muscles of the eye
• 6 - how many muscles attached to the outer surface of the eye
• Lateral Rectus - eye moves laterally
• Medial Rectus - eye moves medially
• Superior rectus - elevates eye superior and turns it medially
• Inferior Rectus - turns the eye  inferiorly and medially
• Superior Oblique - turns the eye Inferiorly and laterally
• Inferior Oblique - turns the eye laterally and superiorly
• Trochlear - Controlling cranial nerve of superior oblique / Cranial no. 4
• Abducens - Controlling cranial nerve of lateral rectus/ Cranial no. 6
• Vitreous humor - Internal structure in eyeball / pinakalooban
• Aqueous humor - External structure in eyeball / pinaka labas
• Lens - divides the eye into two chambers / Flexible, biconvex crystal-like structure /
• Humors - are fluids that fill the interior of the eyeball
• Blind disc / Blind spot - mosquito sample / dinaanan lang mabilis pangyayari
• Retina - yellow in the eye / detects light
• Cornea - covers the pupil, transparent, central anterior portion
• Trigeminal - face sensation / cranial no.5
• Facial - close the eye / cranial no. 7
• Choroid - provides the nutrition to the eyes
• Rods - Most are found toward the edges of the retina / All perception is in gray tones
• Cones - Allow for detailed / identify the color vision / Densest in the center of the retina
