Left Realism:
sees
unfairness
in society as the reason for criminal behaviours
help/support
criminals are often stealing or committing other crimes because they have been
let
down
by society
Policies to reduce inequality:
Left realists call for major
structural
changes to society to reduce
inequality.
It looks to tackle
discrimination
,
lack
of
opportunities
for the poor and increase good
housing
and
education
for all.
This would reduce
relative
deprivation
and as such the need for people to commit crime.
Democratic Policing:
People may distrust the police, so policies should aim to
improve
relations
between
police
and
public.
The
community
can then be part of deciding what
priorities
the police should focus on in their area.
Improve Opportunities:
Police should improve
housing
,
job
security
,
access
to
healthcare
to reduce
deprivation
and need to commit crime.
Multi Agency approach to reducing crime:
Policies which make
agencies
work together
An example of a multi-agency system would be
anti-knife
campaign led by
police
,
doctors
and
social
services
