• Galen was a greek doctor who worked in ancient rome who wrote many books, and his ideas were the basis of medical training
• He developed hippocrates ideas as well as his iwn treatments based on his theory of opposites.
• He drew detailed diagrams of human anatomy using the knowledge he gained from operating on wounded gladiators.
• He was religious so the church supported his ideas which led to a stagnation in medical development
