Pressure and volume

Cards (6)

  • As volume doubles the pressure halves. As pressure doubles the volume halves. This is an inversely proportional relationship
  • As you decrease volume, there is less space for the particles to travel and this means they hit the container walls more often and the pressure is aid to increase
  • As you increase volume of a container the pressure decreases as there is more space for the particles to go into and so they hit the walls less
  • To find pressure the equation is: Pressure(Pa) x volume (m cubed)= a constant PV=K
  • For a gas at constant temperature, pressure multiplied by volume is also constant
  • P1V1=P2V2
This describes the relationship between Pressure and Volume at depths in a liquid. It says that pressure x volume acting upon an object will be equivalent no mater the depth
