Types of natural selection

• Normal distribution - A frequency distribution with a bell shaped curve
• If the distribution is normal we have a stable selection process

  • Under normal circumstances the extreme phenotypes (very large and very small) are less successful in a particular environment, so the distribution is maintained from one generation to the next
  • However, if the environment changes we can get other distributions
• Phenotypes - The observable physical and biochemical characteristics of an organism
