TB pathophysiology

  • Pathophysiology of TB:
    1. mycobacterium tuberculosis is transmitted
    2. people get a primary infection
    3. 95% of those get a latent (dormant) infection - most of these wont ever feel any signs on getting active TB, 5% will get active TB later in life (either to being compromised or another exposure to TB)
    4. 5% of those get active TB - tend to be those that are immunocompromised
