Relationship between other views on creation + conflict

• 1996, Pope John Paul II in “Message to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences” be accepted the theory of evolution was very influential and that there’s no conflict between evolution and the doctrine of the Catholic Church regarding the creation of the world.
• Catholic Church :

  believes the Bible writers were inspired by God but expressed things in their own words
• Catholic Church :

  Gensis has 2 versions of creation to communicate eternal truths about God’s purpose and humans sinfulness
• Catholic Church:

  Catholics accept scientific view of creation ,Big Bang Theory etc, but believe that Genesis reveals the truth that creation came from God
• Evangelical Christians are creationists because they interpret the Bible literally as it’s the Word of God
• Evangelical Christians would suggest that the scientific theories of evolution and the Big Band theory myst be false because they contradict the literal understanding of the creation stories
• Liber Christians:

  believe it makes more sense to u Ferdynand the Bible accounts as myths (stories which contain religious wisdom) rather than historical events
• Liber Christians:

  they accept that the scientific thinking gives us an accurate picture of reality and tend to agree with evolution but believe that God planned that life should develop in this way
• Humanist:

  believe that we can understand the world through science and that religious explanations of the world are unreliable
• Humanist:

  they say there’s plenty of evidence to suggest the world formed by itself , through a slow gradual process over billions of years
• Humanist:

  Evolution can help us to understand the way species are related to eachother today Rather than relying on religious beliefs that it’s a ‘mystery’
• Catholics accept the theory of evolution but rejects the idea that it means humans aren’t special and that all life developed by chance
• It’s not important HOW it happened but WHY it happened
