What about the practical exam - when to use IPPB:
a
breathless
and
productive
patient e.g.
cystic fibrosis
(who is too
fatigued
to
clear
with
ACBT
alone)
a
breathless
patient to
reduce work
of breath e.g.
COPD
a
patient
with
lobar atelectasis
(to
clear sputum
plugging and
recruit lung
) e.g.
post surgery
What about the practical exam:
You will need to be able to discuss the
physiological
effects of
IPPB
and
CPAP
if you bring them up in your
clinical scenario
You will need to be able to discuss the
settings
of IPPB
You will need to justify their use with an
understanding
of the
clinical indications
for both techniques
Don’t forget to consider any possible
precautions
/contraindications e.g.
haemoptysis
or
low BP
