  • Loaded Words - uses words in attempting to influence an audience by usingemotional appeal or stereotypes that cannot be supported by concrete evidences.
    • Transfer - technique used in propaganda and advertising known as association.
  • testimonial - wherein a famous or seemingly authoritative person recommends a product or service, and vouches for its value.
  • bandwagon- persuades people by showing them that everyone else are doing the same thing
  • Soft Soap - use of flattery or insincere compliments designed to get the audience on the side of the speaker.
  • Glittering Generalities - use of words or ideas that evoke a positive emotional response from an audience.
    • plain folks - use of common people to sell or to promote a product or service, commonly used in the world of advertising because buyers are on the lookout for real experiences
  • name calling - use of names that may evoke fear or hatred among the viewers.
  • Card Stacking - shows the product's best features, tells half- truths, and omits its potential problems.
  • Propaganda - a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitudes, perspectives and emotions of people or communities toward some cause or position by presenting only one side of an argument.
  • Hasty Generalization - ( specific to general ) A hasty generalization is a general statement that is drawn from a single case.
  • Sweeping Generalization - (general to specific) This happens when one takes a fact or a general rule and applies it to a situation even when it is not accurate.
  • False Analogy - the speaker or writer assumes that particular concepts or objects that are similar in some ways are similar in other aspects
  • Bandwagon - the speaker or writer tries to establish that something is true just because the majority believes it is true.
  • logical fallacy - a statement that seems true at first glance but is actually faulty upon closer inspection. LF are like tricks or illusions that are used to deceive people.
  • Suffixes -which are found at the end of the root and form a derivative word.ex: able - capable of-age act of, result of-an-native to or related to
    • Prefix -a letter or group of letters added, or affixed, to the beginning of the root, creating a new word with a new meaningex: acer/acri - sourchrom - colormort - deathacu - sharp
  • Root - the base form of a word, which cannot be reduced any further and which carries its own meaning.
  • Man in a tub - named after Archimedes, 'eureka moment' came when he was in a bathtub, this plot type depicts striking realizations being obtained in ordinary, mundane situations.
  • Man on the road - a personal journey, with the focus more on the journey than on the destination.
  • Man in a hole - usually sees the protagonist working to escape a predicament or to overcome a setback. The protagonist may start out in a positive state that may get complicated or be taken away by a dilemma or problem which he or she works to overcome.
