  • what is the purpose of the fine adjustment knob on a light microscope?
its used to focus the lens until a clear image of what's on the slide appears
  • true of false? electron microscopes have a smaller magnification than light microscopes, but they have a higher resolution that light microscopes.
false, electron microscopes have a higher resolution and magnification than light microscopes
  • how has the electron microscopy increased biologists understanding of cells?

they help study in finer detail than light microscopes. they can understand and see sub cellar structures in much more detail.
  • why do we add drops of iodine to slides?
iodine is a stain. it is used to highlight objects by adding colour to them, making them easier to see.
  • what if the equation for magnification?
    image size/real size
  • how do we calculate image size?
    magnification x real size
  • how do you prepare a slide?
    1. add a drop of water to a clean side
  • how do you prepare a slide?
    1. add a drop of water to a clean slid
    2. cut an onion and separate into layers, use tweezers to peel off the epidermal tissue
    3. place the tissue into water on the slide
    4. add iodine solution (a stain)
    5. place a cover slip on top, try to avoid air bubbles otherwise It could obstruct ur view.
  • how many micrometers is there in a cm?
    1000
  • what is magnification?
how many times larger the image is than the object
