Cards (5)

  • 3 POINTS
7 years plan, Andropovs reforms, Kosygins reforms
  • success
To increase increase output of the economy to the desired level while producing for the population
  • 7 year plan
Had successes most successful major economic policy of the time.

Pros: designed to grow industry as well as agriculture,
Meant to focus on light industry with focus on chemicals along with. Designed with ambition, focus on daily items like clothing and furniture more. More consumer good availability

Cons: Was extremely flawed. Did succeed in raising production levels but still fell short: 60% increase in consumer goods while 5% under target. Also the factories and general aims of program confusing. Split the party into agri and ind = more unhappiness and created 105 sovnarkohz then re centralised power to the gosplan)

Therefore didnt reach desired outcomes and still shortages = unsuccessful
  • Andropov reforms
tried soft methods to encourage growth in economy, to increase output in period of decline.

Pros: Launched the anti corruption campaign. Aimes to tackle injustices in the economy along with fraud to increase faith in econ. Minister or interior put on tiral, factory owners making themselves rich. Operation Trawl: KGB went around arresting drunk people and those skipping work. Also banned the selling of liquors like Vodka and sacked drunk workers with fining them for machinery damages.

Cons: It didnt have much of an affect. Corruption still flourished with many KGB officers still turning a blind eye to amny things. People made Andropovka which they drank instead of buying alocohol. Resulted in stagnating growth

Didnt have desired effect of rasing to expect levels and didnt fix anything to do with supply chains = failiure
  • Kosygin Reforms
ineffective reforms which woresend the economic outlook to the soviet economy.

Designed to improve efficiency in industry. Thought it was too inefficient and unsuccessful at the time. Wanted to divert funds away from most inefficient farms to stimulate light industry. Many underlying economic issues after khrushchev as the major reforms just confused everyone but ended badly. He judged success off profit and gave managers more power

However didnt end as hoped. It was very unpopular with the population. Started in Jan and ended in august. High amounts of corruption along with discontent amongst the people in the collective farms. It caused revolts in czechoslovakia which further damaged the plan and showed it wasnt feasible.

Shows that it didnt raise output to desired levels and not only didnt raise consumer goods but harmed the whole industry making ppl unhappy.
