How was Stalin's use of terror similar to Lenin's

  -Use of terror was different, Lenin against opposition. stalin against party&soviet people

  -Similar= use of terror was alike

  -Purging of rivals, use of secret police, Scale& use of terror.
• S1: Purging of rivals

  -Lenin used purging to stop any rivalling of communist party and against opposition

  - Stalin used it to sustain own power and aimed it at party rivals.

  -Lenin's purged Social-Rev's and trialled the leaders to reduce politcal rivals

  -Lenin purged political rivals outside of the party, whilst Stalin purged his political rivals within the communist party. Their purging of rivals wasn't similar.
• S1: Use of secret police

  -Lenin and Stalin both use their secret police to carry out their terror

  - Lenin's was used to purge political rivals during Red terror, they would torture, kill and exile rivals of the party.

  -Stalin transformed the Secret police, he used them during Great terror to attack the party and his rivals within

  -Stalin's use of secret police was on a far greater scale than Lenin's, making it only partially similar
• S1: Use of terror

  -Lenin mainly used terror to defend revolution against opposition. e.g. Social-Revs

  -Stalin's much more widespread, used against party members, soviet people and relatives of rivals.

  -Lenin sent Social Revs to labour camps as part of the Red terror.

  -Stalin took this idea but scaled it up by sending millions of people to his labour camps, gulags. (Could be seen as similar)

  -Both used terror for multiple uses but Stalin's was much bigger and detrimental to soviet society. this is why they're fundamentally different.
