Diffusion

Cards (6)

  • Diffusion
The net movement of gas particles, or particles in solution, from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration
  • The greater the concentration gradient between areas, the faster the rate of diffusion - more particles available to diffuse
  • Greater surface area of the membrane increases the rate of diffusion - particles will have more surface area to access so more likely a particle will go through
  • Shorter the distance for particles to travel increases the rate of diffusion - as particles will not have to travel far taking less time
  • more movement will increase the rate of diffusion - increase kinetic energy lead to an increase in speed of particles
  • higher temperatures increase the rate of diffusion - particles move faster at a higher temperature so have more kinetic energy
