  • The ABC model of depression has however been labelled to be controversial, as it locates the responsibility of depression to be purely with the depressed person, this effectively blames the depressive person for their own condition which can lead to the worsening of their disorder and fails to take account situational variables (e.g family).
  • However, it can be suggested that one should take into account the cost-benefit analysis, as whilst it might be criticised for potentially blaming the depressive, it has led to the development of REBT therapy (rational emotive behavioural therapy) and the idea is to vigorously argue with the patient to alter their irrational beliefs tht are making them unhappy, this has been proven to be an effective treatment.
