  • 1.
    Use cork borer to cut 5 potato cylinders
  • 2.
    Use a sharp knife to trim the potatoes to equal length about 3cm
  • 3.
    Accurately measured the mass and length of the cylinders

    Measure 10 cm³ of the 1.0 M sugar solution and transfer the first boiling tube and label
  • 5.
    Repeat step 4 for different concentrations and distilled water
  • 6.
    Add one potato cylinder to each boiling tube
  • 7.
    Prepare a table as see below
  • 8.
    Leave the cylinders in boiling tubes over night in a tube rack
  • 9.
    Remove the cylinders and gently blot them with paper towels
  • 10.
    Measure the mass and length of each of the cylinders and record them on the table
  • 11.
    Calculate the percentage change for each cylinder
  • 12.
    Plot a graph for change in mass in g again the concentration of the sugar solution
  • 13.
    Plot a graph of the change in length in mm against the concentration of the sugar solution
