  • Strengthen your faith and connect with Jesus, Via Dolorosa "those who go on pilgrimage pray with their feet"
  • Strengthen your connection with the worldwide catholic community, in Rome listen to the Pope appointed by apostolic succession, "if we destroy creation, creation will destroy us"
• Pilgrimage is important-disagree points

  DISAGREE:

  • Mass is a better way to connect with Jesus and live a fulfilling Christian life, have communion and hear gospels "I was hungry and you fed me" which inspires charity and love
  • Financially not viable to expect Catholics to go on pilgrimage "Love thy neighbour"
• 4 marks of the church guarantee church teaching as true- agree

  • Apostolic based on the teachings of the disciples (apostolic succession) Because authority passed down from Jesus who told his disciples to "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations" Magesterium must be true
  • The church is Holy meaning it is guided by the holy spirit. The holy spirit is part of the trinity meaning that God guides the Church on earth. God loves humans so why would he tell lies to us? "the Lord the giver of life" (Nicene creed)
• 4 marks of the church guarantees church teaching is true- disagree

  • One - means the church is united but it does not mean it is true. Jesus prayed his followers "may all be one" but this could be in lies, for example the Church used to teach Genesis was factual
  • Catholic - The church is universal by all worldwide. However we are humans and humans make mistakes, even Jesus "flipped the tables" This is why we need to accept it is not all true
• Drama is the best way to evangelise- agree

  • Accessible, easily understandable messages such as forgiveness as transformative. The Bishop shows kingdom values by forgiving Val jean which leads to him setting up a factory for the poor- inspiring mission. "as we forgive those who trespass against us"
  • reinforces Jesus' message of "love your neighbour" to all. Les mis "to love another person is to see the face of God" which encourages Catholics to be kind to each other. "ought to be encouraged"- church

  • Conflicting messages. Valjean steals "Do not steal" and is rewarded. Goes against God's sense of Justice as he escapes punishment
  • Better ways such as simply reading the Bible. The Beatitudes clearly express how to live a moral christian life and is said by Jesus- increasing authority "blessed are the peacemakers" "blessed are the merciful"
