    Responsible for the administration of the courts and tribunals in England and Wales
  • Courts
    Once charged, they brought before magistrates court, defendable plead guilty or not guilty, and pre-trial issues such as bail and legal aid are decided. Guilty plea leads to sentencing hearing, no guilty plead leads to trial being arranged.

  • HM prison and probation
    Prison-
    • Supervise offenders in custody,
    • lawyers may ask for prison visits to have legal consultations with clients
    probation-
    • Supervisors offenders who are serving their senses in the community, including prisoners who are released and licensed to serve part of their sentence outside prison
    • Work with other charity organisations to help prisoner leave prison successfully
    • Liaise with police, should there be any issues whilst they’re on probation
