    eg STM is not the same for everyone
    Jacobs - recall (digit span) increased steadily with age
    8 years olds remember 6.6 digits on average
    19 yr olds 8.6 average
    increase in brain capacity or people develop strategies to improve their digit span as they get older eg chunking
  • Capacity is more limited than originally thought
    Cowan - STM only limited to 4 chunks
    STM is not as extensive as orginally thought 4 items for visual stimuli
