In 1979, Margaret Thatcher became PM & made strict economic policies – led to recessions with high unemployment (especially in Northern cities – eg: Liverpool)
Thatcher got into conflict with industrialunions (rich got tax cuts BUT poor were often unemployed & had wagesdrop)
Some saw Conservative policies (in 1980s) as a form of class war (aimed at working class)
