The Earth consists of different layers
Crust
- The
first
layer or the surface belongs to the crust. this layer is made up of several large and small plates.
Mantle - The
widest
layer of earth and is made up of
magma.
Core
- The central layer of Earth and is divided into a liquid layer called the
outer core
and a solid layer called the inner core

Earthquakes
Shaking of the ground
Earthquakes happen when
1.
Crustal plates
move
2.
Nearby rocks
move and
break
3.
Rocks
slide past each other
4.
Waves
of
energy
are released and sent out through Earth
5.
Waves
trigger
earthquakes
Seismograph
Instrument that measures the
motion
of the ground during an
earthquake
Earthquake strength
Measured in terms of
magnitude
and
intensity
Magnitude
Amount of energy released by an earthquake from its
focus
Focus
Break in the ground caused by the
pressure
of
moving
rocks, where the earthquake originates
Epicenter
The ground above the
focus
Richter
scale
Used to measure an earthquake's
magnitude
History records from
1589
to the present show that our country is constantly hit by
earthquakes
This is due to our country's location in an area where
crust plates
are
weak
Circumpacific Belt or
Pacific Ring
of
Fire
Area where our country is
located
Earthquake
occurs when there are sudden movements along
fault
lines.
